Bodie, CA 2012

After leaving Mammoth, we took a tiny but treacherous detour to see a famous ghost town called Bodie.

Hauling a 31 ft. trailer is simple on paved roads, but as we were several miles from Bodie, the road turned to dirt. I mean..divots, rocks, welts, sand and wining thin roads.

Not fun.

We had to go at a snails pace, sometimes only 5 miles an hour. The car and the trailer would rock and roll and bounce like mad.

I must have had every single muscle clinched while praying that no tire on our car or the trailer would pop - because we were in the middle OF NO WHERE!!!

2 dogs in the car, minimal water, no food and I'd envisioned the worst case scenario.

FINALLY - I could see Bodie....but we still had to venture another half mile in the dirt and rocky road.

Ugh!

It was a warm 75 degrees and much cooler in the shade. One of our dogs, Calvin (a boarder terrier) has a very heavy coat and he gets very hot very quickly. I had so much sympathy for him that I sought refuge in as much shade as I could while my husband Bob spent hours shooting with glee, as he was in photography heaven.

This is what I captured:

Oh dear...it looks like some of the pics came out two-toned. I have no idea why. Oh well...
